My cutting box arrived tonight!
Designed by me and made by my wonderful Dad it is even better that I thought because entirely by co-incidence one of the 'pouches' at the side is the exact size of a Clover mini-iron cover. Plus, again entirely by co-incidence, the boxes from Ikea that didn't fit the shelves when I put the doors on, fit perfectly, two side by side inside the box. It now gives me an erogonomic cutting height.
The whole thing lifts off the table and slides underneath for when I want to use the whole table top.
Now I have so much storage I need to go and buy some more notions/fabric!. Fortunately my Friend Lesley has volunteed to give up three days to go to Festival of Quilts to assist me do just that in August. Meanwhile June Calander in NYC kindly popped an Amerian quilt catalogue in her swap package to me today -its from Keepsake Quilting and has some very pretty things in it.....!!

Yay for the serendipity factor!
That's a great design and beautifully made. I'm betting that you get orders for this.
I'm having a serious case of envy -- it was worth the Ikea madness for everything all beautiful, workable, organized. Congrats. Storing scraps? Most go into plastic bags more or less sorted by color but not cut up, bunch of smaller plastic bags go into a bigger plastic bag ... and I hide it as best I can in too little space.
That is beautiful! It looks so well designed and constructed, as well as finished.
you see, it was worth the Ikea madness, because now your wonderful cutting box is complete. I will be at the quilt show on the 18th and 19th, based with out quilts from Kuwait, so look out for us, and if you find me, we will celebrate with coffee and sticky buns. yey!
Seriously, is he taking orders? What a great idea!
That cutting box is a seriously good idea for the space-constrained. And wonderfully made. I've never seen anything like that before. You need to patent it right away! The cabinets look great and I'm sure it won't be long before your room seems less than "too tidy"! Can you lend your dad out? Just put him in a package to NZ (Fastpost in case he is claustrophobic.)
