Making up my education

I was 8 in 1978 and not in the kind of family where eight year olds got taken to see American high school films.  In 1979 our TV blew up ( in the middle of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, which was deemed suitable family viewing) and we didn't get a new one in the household until 1989. Accordingly there are certain gaps in my popular cultural knowledge.

Which is why I am, even as I write, watching for the very first time....

I am mesmerised. It is so bad!! Tell me - did people really dance like that?!
And how, if Betty Rizzo got her self knocked up did she get to be the First Lady?

And why, oh oh why on earth does she now have a facebook page?

How can you say it is bad?! I was completely mesmerised by Grease; I wanted to be Sandy. However, my dad wouldn't allow me see the film so I learned the story from a movie photo book and an album my cousin had!

Well, if you'd like to see what Olivia Newton John is up to these days, you should check out the most recent episode of Glee. It's a newish American tv show about a group of misfits who are members of a highschool show choir. It frequently guest starts various musicians and Broadway stars. It's a riot! In this week's episode Olivia Newton John remakes her classic music video to the song Physical along with the female gym teacher (and cheerleading coach) from the show.

If you're thinking about watching Grease 2... don't.

Rizzo was my favorite part of Grease! One of those movies that was over the top even when it was current. Of course no one ever danced like that!

I'm a little older and remember seeing it in the Westend as a musical before the film came out. It was wonderful, a real hot rod car on the stage (you could even smell the burning fuel). I didn't see the film until my daughter got the video. Don't be so harsh, it was only fun and she adored it.

I still love to watch John Travolta dance. Did you see Pulp Fiction?

I haven't seen that since the 80's and am thinking it might not translate into modern times... so I won't be watching it anytime soon.

But what*I* want to know is why were you searching for Betty Rizzo on Facebook?!

I saw the show and loved it; so did my kids. Of COURSE everybody danced like that and dressed like that and acted like that if you were in h.s. in the 1950's - LOL.

I'm pretty sure this movie is what prompted my first attempt at smoking! I so wanted to be 'bad'.
